What is 5G Technology and Their Features

What is 5G?

This is the fifth generation of mobile communications that will replace the existing 4G standard. According to analysts, the real “5G boom” is expected in 2020, when most operators standardize their networks under the new format. By the way, several stages of introducing fifth-generation networks are planned: first, 5G NR Non-stand-alone will work, which will use the existing 4G LTE eNB network, later 5G will receive its own frequencies.

Note that in the world there is an already established tendency to represent a new generation of cellular communications 10 years after the introduction of the older one. Therefore, the first generation of mobile networks appeared in the early 1980s. After 10 years, the world introduced improved technology – 2G. In the early 2000s, users got access to 3G high-speed Internet, and the latest generation of high-speed Internet was introduced in 2009. And after 10 years, the world will gain access to completely new 5G technologies.

5G technologies will provide high bandwidth compared to 4G technologies, which will ensure greater availability of mobile broadband, as well as the use of device-to-device modes, ultra-reliable large-scale communication systems between devices, as well as a shorter delay time, Internet speed from 1 – 2 Gbit / s, lower battery consumption than 4G equipment, which will positively affect the development of the Internet of things.

What is the Feature of 5G Technology?

5G technology is designed to solve one of the main problems of the previous generation – high power consumption. Thanks to this, devices connected to new networks will be able to support the “always online” function.

In addition, it is envisaged that the new generation of networks will provide such a data transfer rate that will compete with the wired Internet.

Millimeter-wave waves demonstrate a number of advantages over the frequencies of the current generation. They are less sensitive to interference in the form of walls, partitions, and leaves, have a better reflection coefficient, preserving the signal power and require fewer equipment costs when deploying a 5G network.

In the future, technology has every chance not only to make the Internet of Things accessible to the mainstream but also to completely replace Wi-Fi equipment that will not bind the subscriber to an access point with a limited range.

Among the basic requirements of 5G: network bandwidth up to 20 Gbit / s downlink (that is, to the subscriber) and up to 10 Gbit / s in the opposite direction. Support for simultaneous connection of up to 1 million devices per square kilometer. Reducing the delay time on the radio interface to 0.5 ms (for URLLC inter-machine communication services) and up to 4 ms (for eMBB ultra-wideband mobile communication services).

When Will 5G Appear?

As noted earlier, experts predict the full deployment of the first 5G networks only in 2020, but the large-scale introduction of the latest networks will take place no earlier than 2025. However, several world telecommunication operators have already announced their readiness to launch 5G.
